In this course, students will be introduced to the world of electronic music production through their own laptop using an application called Studio One V3. We will begin our journey by using musical audio loops—layering, tweaking, slicing and mangling them into our own unique creations. We will explore many genres of modern music, from rock and pop to EDM and video game soundtracks, deciphering what makes them tick and how to create within those frameworks. As we progress, loops will give way to understanding the basics of music theory, allowing us to compose our own melodies, chord progressions and drum beats. Upon completing the year, students will have a comprehensive understanding of what goes into professional music production and will be ready to take the next steps down the rabbit hole of audio, technology and creativity. Register here.
For this course, students must have:
· A set of headphones. Over the ear, full size headphones are preferred but ear-buds will work.
· Laptop- minimum recommended computer specs here for Mac and Windows.
