Registration & Policies

Procedure

Registration for private music lessons takes place in consultation with a Squamish Academy of Music administrator. This ensures that all students are matched with the best teacher, instrument, and schedule to fit their individual needs. New students can request a call or email from an administrator here.

Registration is not guaranteed until payment has been received.

Students may register for an annual program or may register for drop-in times, if available. Payment for annual students is made in full, or in even monthly payments on the first of the month. Monthly payments must be secured by post-dated cheque, preauthorized credit card, or preauthorized account debit.

Payment

Registration is not complete or guaranteed until SAM has received payment. Payment for annual private lessons (September – June) may be paid in full or as a monthly payment plan. Term payment plans are available for annual group classes. Payment plans must be set up in advance for the full teaching year with a valid form of payment (Visa, MasterCard, direct debit, or post-dated cheques).

Failed payments will result in a service fee of $25.00, payable to SAM immediately, along with the balance owing and a new or updated form of payment. Unpaid balances owing past 30 days could result in SAM cancelling the student’s lessons and/or classes.

Student Absence

Student absences will not be refunded. However, up to 1 hour per quarter of make-up lesson will be rescheduled if notice is provided 10 days in advance by email to info@squamishacademyofmusic.com. 10 days notice is required to re-schedule any make-up lesson and a no-show will result in the loss of the lesson.

Teacher Absence

All teacher absences will be rescheduled, or a suitable substitute teacher will be provided.

Group Classes

Group classes and day camps may be cancelled due to lack of enrolment up to one week prior to start date. A full refund will be issued in the case of program cancellation. There is no refund, credit, or make-up time provided for missed group classes or day camps. Security deposits are non-refundable unless SAM cancels the program.

Group class pricing accounts for 1 cancelled class per teaching year. In the case of single class cancellation due to teacher illness, bad weather, etc. the class will not be made up. In the case that further classes are cancelled, a make up class will be provided.

Early Withdrawal/ Cancellation

Students may withdraw from a group class or day camp up to one week prior to start date and receive a refund of 85% of registration fee. No refund will be issued after one week prior to start date.

Once registration fee and post-dated payments are received, registration is confirmed. Students may withdraw from scheduled private lessons 1 month prior to the start date in September with no charge. Less than 1 month notice will result in a one-month charge.

Withdrawal from annual private lessons (Annual payment or monthly payment) will result in a cancellation fee equivalent to one month’s payment due when notice of cancellation is received. Notice of cancellation must be emailed to info@squamishacademyofmusic.com.

Additional Fees

All borrowed materials must be returned by the following lesson or student may be charged a replacement fee.

Lesson fees do not include the cost of an accompanist for recitals, festivals and other performance opportunities. Please see SAM accompanist fees here.
